Ricardo Quintana

Ricardo Quintana — Founding Partner

From the operations side of the industry to the software that serves it.

Ricardo founded Avia Solutions to build the flight operations tools he had spent his career working without. He works on the products from both sides at once: the operational problem, and the code that solves it.

  • Founding partner. Founded the company and sets its technical direction — the products, the performance engines underneath them and the infrastructure they run on.
  • Flight operations background. Trained as an air traffic controller and as an industrial engineer, with formal courses in weight and balance and in performance engineering. Private pilot, independent consultant, and instructor in performance and in weight and balance.
  • The product line. eLila EFB, Volatus, Fulcrum, NavCharts, Lucrum, Portum and the runway analysis service — built in house rather than licensed and rebranded.
  • Performance engines. Drove the work of carrying the manufacturers’ SCAP takeoff and landing modules, and their in-flight performance program, across to modern code at full float precision — checked against the manufacturers’ own reference binaries rather than approximated from tables.
  • Performance databases. Built the tooling the company uses to create its own SCAP performance databases from Airplane Flight Manual data, for the aircraft and the cases a manufacturer’s database does not cover.
  • Data and infrastructure. Navigation databases built each AIRAC cycle from official sources, plus terrain, weather and NOTAM ingestion — all running on infrastructure the company operates itself, with no third party sitting in the planning loop.
Armando Gonzalez

Armando Gonzalez — Aerospace Engineer

Thirty years helping the world’s airlines fly more efficiently.

Armando spent his career at Boeing Commercial Airplanes working alongside customer airlines — solving their operational problems and building the technology that made their flight operations faster, leaner and more efficient.

  • Airline operations partner. Advised carriers in more than twenty countries on performance, procedures, systems and fuel-efficient operations, on site and in their own operations centers.
  • Paper to digital. Led the transition from printed manuals and performance charts to the Electronic Flight Bag, taking onboard performance and documentation products from concept through fleet deployment at flag carriers across three continents.
  • Product development. Owned aviation software products end to end — defining what airlines needed, shaping the roadmap, and delivering programs that carriers adopted fleet-wide.
  • Regulatory depth. Extensive experience navigating certification and airworthiness approvals with aviation regulators around the world, and contributing to the regulatory guidance that governs flight manual content industry-wide.
  • Flight operations engineering. Led the engineering teams producing the performance data, manuals and software that airline engineering departments and flight crews depend on daily.

Computer science and modern art.

Katherine is Ricardo’s daughter. She is in her senior year of computer science at the University of Washington, and holds an associate’s degree in modern art.

Why it matters here. Runway analysis, AFM performance data, weight and balance, and the EFB that carries them to the flight deck are the four things this company builds. They are also, in order, what Armando spent three decades doing at the manufacturer.

We port the engine, we do not approximate it

The manufacturer's SCAP takeoff and landing modules, and its in-flight performance program, run as the manufacturer wrote them — carried across to modern code at full float precision and validated against the manufacturer's own binaries. Where the industry ships digitised tables, we ship the calculation.

One source of truth across the operation

The EFB, the planner and load control read the same navigation cycle and the same certified aircraft databases. Disagreement between ground and air is designed out rather than reconciled afterwards.

We say what a system cannot do

When a performance database does not support a case, our software names the case and refuses it. A confident wrong number is worse than no number, and in this industry that is not a philosophical position.

We run our own infrastructure

Navigation data, elevation, weather and the performance engines are ours end to end. No third-party service sits in the middle of your planning loop, and nothing critical depends on a vendor we cannot fix.
