Named after the Latin word for port or harbour, Portum is a single-purpose iPad app: airport, runway, landing weight and runway state in — field limit, climb limit, quick turnaround weight and the approach speeds out. For operations that need the landing calculation without deploying a full flight bag.

The workflow

Four inputs. Nothing else to fill in.

The app is deliberately small. Everything that can be looked up is looked up.

Airport and runway

Search by ICAO or by name, pick one runway or several. Length, elevation and heading come from the bundled navigation database — you do not type them.

Weight

The actual landing weight, in your units. Kilograms or pounds, set once in the unit configuration and respected everywhere.

Runway state

Dry, wet, or slippery good, medium or poor — the certified condition set, not a free-text note.

Weather

METAR pulled for the field, or entered by hand when you want to run a what-if. Wind, temperature and QNH feed straight into the calculation.

The output

Every limit, and the one that is actually holding you.

  • Field limit from the aircraft's own landing distance tables, corrected for runway slope up and down, pressure altitude, temperature and the wind component resolved against the runway heading.
  • Climb limit — the approach and landing climb requirement at the day's conditions.
  • Quick turnaround weight, for the leg where brake energy, not runway, is what stops you.
  • VREF and VAPP for every approved approach/landing flap combination, interpolated at the actual weight rather than rounded to the nearest chart line.
  • With and without reverse thrust, so the credit you are allowed to take is a decision and not an assumption.
  • Several runways at once — select them together and compare, instead of running the numbers one at a time.

Where the numbers come from

The manufacturer's tables, interpolated properly.

Portum reads a certified landing performance database for the model and engine you select — the same class of manufacturer data behind our runway analysis work.

  • Bilinear interpolation across the table, at the actual weight, altitude and temperature.
  • Slope and wind corrections applied as the database defines them, not as a generic rule of thumb.
  • Model and engine chosen from the aircraft configuration file, so one app serves a fleet rather than one tail.
  • Bundled navigation data — 16,343 airports and 40,656 runways — on the device.

Portum is not a small eLila. If you need takeoff performance, weight & balance, the QRH and the MEL on the same device, that is eLila EFB. Portum exists for the operation that wants the landing calculation, correct and defensible, and nothing else on the screen.
